 | New Zealand Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 368 | | I could recommend this as a cheap & easy way to see NZ for a group of 6 because.... All of your accomodation and transport hire costs are approx AUS$96.00 per day (AUS$32.00 per couple), You can buy all your own groceries and cook all your own meals, make a tea/coffee or cold drink any time, you can free camp anywhere you like at no cost, diesel fuel is only NZ59cents per litre and at the end of the day, after a big day of sightseeing, you do not have to drive back to your accomodation because you have it with you!
The van was very comfortable, had a shower and a toilet, stove, cooktop, microwave, refrigerator and a heater. Everything in the van ran on 12 volt, gas or electricity. THE BIG BONUS... you only have to unpack once!!!! One of our best kept secrets! I particularly want to mention Holiday park Cabins with ensuites here. This is an option worth considering if you are a little bit flexible. Cooking facilities are campground or minimal in the cabins, however if you don't mind eating out, this is a very price attractive option for accommodation. This is a 4-star hotel ideally located in the central city, beside the river and main street of Hamilton. Located among the night clubs and restaurants, all within walking distance. This is a very comfortable hotel with a unique cultural flavour typical of the local Maori tribe. Cultural carvings are a real treat and highlight of this hotel. We went to New Zealand and wanted to have the freedom to go everywhere and at every time that we wanted it at that moment. So we've become our own boss, with our own campervan, with 4 sleepingplaces, toilet, shower, etc.
The campervan was nearly a year old, had no smell or what so ever. So is was our first class and own hotel. Leave a Comment

Why not have your hotel go with you everywhere you want/need to go. Never need to pack or unpack. Never having to rush to get to the next reservation. Be flexible with your time. Have more time. Cost is comparable to cheaper since your car and hotel is the same expense. You can park anywhere you like to have the best sunrises and sunsets. Trade off driving and sleeping. Camper vans have a small kitchen with running water, stove and mini refrigirator. They have a working bathroom with shower but it is small. Negatives about camper vans is the lack of personal space, no room service or housekeeping. Supersize tip: Gas stations are not open 24 hours a day. Plan your legs accordingly and buy an emergency gas canister, fill it up with gas and stow it with the emergency tools in the back of the camper van. You will remember this tip if you ever rent a camper van. Will you remember and curse that you didn't do it or remember and thank this site for giving you a helpful tip?
This website will give you the many different providers. You must look and investigate which company would work for your needs. Depending on where you will pick up or drop-off, where you will be travelling, size of a camper van you need, you will find the right company.

YHA group is part of the worldwide IYHF. They have hostels in all the major towns and cities in New Zealand and usually the quality of thei hostels is very good. You can expect the same sort of service and accommodation in every hostel. I stayed at the Kiwi Paka hostel in Waitomo. This hostel was brad new and one of the best hostels I stayed in in New Zealand. So if you go caving in Waitomo stay there. Leave a Comment

This independent hostel is located right in the centre of Taupo, not on the busy main street, but just around the corner from all the happening stuff. So this is a nice and quiet place to stay. You have great view of the lake from the veranda on the first floor. Here you also have the kitchen, so while cooking, a great view! The hostel is clean and has good facilities. There is a hot spa, which is very relaxing after a day of tramping the Tongariro Crossing or doing some other outdoor activities. Any othe moment to use the Spa is ok too ;) The kitchen has all the equipment you'll need and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The hostel is somewhat more expensive (26NZD) than most other hostels, but it's worth it, since other hostels in Taupo are real noisy and simply said rotters! The newest backpackers chain in New Zealand is Base Backpackers. So far they only have four locations, but they intend to open a lot more over the years. If you are in Wellington or Auckland and looking for the best budget place to stay, stay at Base. The rooms are spacious, clean and safe. The hostel facilities are very good good, They have their own bar and restaurant with good and cheap food. For the girls there is a special floor called the Sanctuary, with fluffy towels and pillows, hairdryers in the bathroom and free soaps etc. The bathrooms are all new and very clean. The showers are the best you will find at any backpakcers in NZ, real power showers and a constant temperature. I recommend staying at these great hostels. I have to say I wasn't very pleased with the Base in Christchurch, but they were renovating so maybe things have improved. Base in Rotorua has to be good too, but I didn't stay there. This is one of the biggest chain of hostels in the world and they have many many hostels all over the place in New Zealand. The quality of the hostels varies a lot. There is not really a grading system for the hostels like YHA have, so you don't really know what to expect of the place till you get there. I have stayed at a lot of VIP backpackers and most of them were ok. My favourite VIP is the Pipi Patch Lodge in Paihia in the Bay of Islands. Leave a Comment

Luxurious Style hotel with rooms and apartments available. The restaurant "White" is wonderfully placed so patrons get superb harbour views while dining. Board and Convention facilities available.
This hotel is build on a wharf, therefore you are right out on the harbour. Arrival and Departure lounges for Cruise ships are here too. Very special location and anyone would enjoy this lovely, albeit costly, hotel.
