Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Hotel Del Senato gives you one of the best views in the city from most rooms. If you are the lucky ones who stay in one of the corner rooms -- for instance, room 602 -- that view extends out to your own large terrace over looking Piazza della Rotonda. However, if you do not stay in such rooms, the rooftop terrace bar would be an excellent place to have a drink with the view of the Vittoriano and Michelangelo's Cupola in sight. A three-star hotel with a four-star service, Hotel Del Senato is a great place to stay if you don’t mind paying the price. The four-poster bed, the fresco on the ceiling, and the large bathroom with Jacuzzi tub are the obvious touches of elegant, but the little details are what make guests return to the hotel time after time. Some of our friends do, and we understand why. The staffs in Hotel Del Senato know how to make every guest feel important and at the same time, feel at home. It’s is an art, and it’s a lost art.
The pigeons on the terrace were our only beef with the hotel, although it was not the hotel’s fault really. The birds were vicious, they attacked our drinks while the drinks were still in our hand, they knocked over the bowls of our munchies, fighting and squawking like banshee, and they did not stop even when we swatted them away. | | | | Albergo Del Senato: A Hotel in the Center of it All
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
When you book a room at the Albergo del Senato (AdelS, as the hotel abbreviates it) you are in the heart of Rome. The Eternal City is compact and from the front door of this hotel you can walk everywhere. Facing Piazza della Rotonda, with antiquity’s most well-preserved building, the Pantheon, as its dominant feature, this three-star hotel is housed in a late 19th-century palazzo designed by Gaetano Koch (1849-1910), the architect responsible for Palazzo Margherita, now the American Embassy, in the Via Veneto. Although our room, #304, was small, because it faced the open piazza we had a sense of space. Cleanliness is top priority at the del Senato, even the façade is the cleanest and brightest of any on the square. The bed’s mattress was firm for a good night’s rest. The gold-colored damask fabric that covers walls help lend a note of elegance, as did the crown molding in the main room and the bathroom. The hot water instantly flows from the faucets in the black and white marble tiled bathroom. The terrycloth robes are plush and, oh so, comfortable. The towels are generously sized; but as with many European hotels washcloths are not provided, so bring your own as we do when we travel. The staff is sincerely friendly and helpful; all of them speak English quite well. I recognize that in our t-shirt-and-jeans society, hotel laundry service is not given much thought. At AdelS it is pricey but very good; the two white dress shirts I had pressed were expertly, and efficiently, ironed. The complementary buffet breakfast is simple but satisfying. In mild weather take time for a drink on the rooftop terrace, with funnyman Michele serving refreshments from behind the bar. The view from here is magical: all of the domes of the Eternal City are at eye-level. Whenever we go to Rome, we will stop again at this charming albergo. Leave a Comment |
