Our bags were delay in/out of Rome from London. It was such a hassle and their system is really not efficient in helping stranded tourists without their bags. So it's best to pack an extra set of clothes on your handcarry if you have space.

Small trolleys will fit your needs.
It never snows, it rarely rains, a lot of sun, so avoid heavy clothes. Very comfortable shoes, you'll never walk as much as in Rome.
It's a metropolis, you can easily find anything for good prices. Just what is necessary.
Don't forget your camera, preferrably a reflex one; digitals ill give you cold images of a hot city. No videocameras, unless you're Japanese...
Many public parks, many great and lovely beaches... It's up to you!

Take a comfortable backpack with not too much weight...
Good walking shoes are a must...you will probably walk almost everywhere you go...
Make sure you take a lot of film for the many photos you will want to take. A zoom lens also comes in handy for getting to those 'hard to reach' places... Leave a Comment

The best thing you might bring on your trip to Rome is luggage that has WHEELS. Walking through the airport and getting to your hotel is that much easier when you are dragging your suitcase rather than having it drag you down!
