At Termini train station you can catch mainline intercity trains to everywhere in Italy. Public transport here is really cheap, so you really can't complain much, it's incredibly good value.
Until recently apparently, they had a really strange practice of deciding children's fares on height, not age; children under one metre tall travelled free, but kids over a metre paid the adult fare. When you arrive on the airport of Rome, and you buy a trainticket to the city, you better buy a return ticket, so you don't have to waste time when you're going back to the airport by waiting in the line for buying a trainticket. Theme: Train

Termini, the main train station in Rome, is a huge modern complex and integrates well with the bus staion in the piazza just outside and the metro links. Theme: Train

I took a plane to Rome one time and the train the first time.

Taking the train in Italy is fairly easy and the prices are very reasonable. I thought Termini was clean, basically safe during the day, and had some decent shops and enough places to choose to eat. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

Roma Termini is the main train station. Be careful and watch your belongings around here. Gypsies are known to target tourist. I know, they tried to get me around here.
Take the Metro, or buses. Driving in Rome is difficult at best, and I wouldn't recommend it for tourists. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

One of the best ways to get from the airport to the city is by train... it only cost a few dollars and you get to see some of the countryside.
You can get a all zone pass at the airport which is good on the city bus as well. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

For all your connection with the train.
Go to Statione Termini.

I dont know if there is a best way, but the way I did it was fly from Hahn, Germany with Ryan Air to Pisa for 30euros, where I took a 3 hour long train ride to Rome for another 30euros.
Use the Metro (the underground)
